AthleteTypes was formed when leaders in the fields of athletic mindset evaluation, behavior science, and predictive analytics joined forces to fulfill the mission of delivering powerful, easy-to-use sports psychology tools and training to boost the success and well-being of every athlete, coach, and team.
Rob is a co-founder and the President & CEO of AthleteTypes. Rob started his career as a practicing lawyer in a large law firm and then for a technology start-up. He eventually transitioned away from law to the business side. Rob spent the last 20+ years in business development leadership roles in both tech start-ups and Fortune 500 companies.
Rob is passionate about sports and helping people reach their full potential. He was a 3-sport athlete in high school then went on to play college football at Hillsdale College. Rob lives in Chicago with his wife Amy and daughter Carson.
Dr. Robert Troutwine
Dr. Troutwine (Bob) is a co-founder and serves as the Chief Sports Psychologist for AthleteTypes. He has 30+ years experience working primarily with professional sports organizations, military, corporations and law firms. His client base includes such well known names as the New England Patriots, Kansas City Royals, Ford Motor Company, and the US Navy SEALs.
Dr. Troutwine is probably best known for his work in sports. He coached college football for two years in the early 1980s before coming on board with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1984. Since then, he has consulted with dozens of professional sports teams in the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and internationally on talent selection, coaching, and development.
In 2017, Dr. Troutwine co-founded AthleteTypes to bring his proprietary Troutwine Athletic Profile (TAP) to the global athletic market. He also currently holds the title of Professor Emeritus after being a professor and chair of the Psychology Department at William Jewell College. Bob resides in Liberty, MO with his wife Nancy and has 3 grown children plus 3 (and counting) grandchildren.
Sterling Bates is a co-founder and serves as Chief Technology & Product Officer of AthleteTypes. Sterling is responsible for the company’s technology & product vision, including software development and support. Sterling’s unique background and passion in technology, mathematics & psychological types provides the ideal background to lead the management and continued development of our people analytics engine and cloud-based application.
Prior to AthleteTypes, Sterling worked for Disney in information technology where he led their business intelligence team developing company reporting strategies and executive dashboards.
Sterling also serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Psychological Type International, a global professional organization of psychological type researchers, consultants, coaches and leadership trainers. Sterling resides in Orlando, FL with his significant other, Melissa.
Mark is a co-founder and contributes to strategy and executive management of AthleteTypes. Mark also runs a sister business called Attorney Assessment that leverages the same people analytics platform as AthleteTypes.
Mark’s experience in the legal industry – nearly twenty years in roles ranging from full-time practice to managing the business of a law firm to coaching business development strategies for firms and attorneys – has given him deep insight into the problems facing professional services firms and the professionals that work there.
Mark received his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, with majors in Marketing, Management & Strategy and Media Management. Mark also received his JD from Chicago-Kent College of Law and his BA from Northwestern University. Mark resides in Chicago with his wife Amy, daughter Taylor, and son Roy.
